XXI ALL-RUSSIAN CONFERENCE "TRAIN TRAFFIC SAFETY"

RUT MIIT XXI ALL-RUSSIAN SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE "TRAIN TRAFFIC SAFETY"

On May 19-20, 2022, the XXI All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Train Traffic Safety" was held at the Russian University of Transport. This year's conference theme, "Innovation as the Basis for the Progressive Development of the Railway Safety Ecosystem," was especially relevant and resonated with the rapid changes taking place in Russia and around the world.

RUT (MIIT) is traditionally a venue for open and productive dialogue between representatives of science and the transport community on the most pressing issues facing railways and transport as a whole. The "Train Traffic Safety" conference is an open online platform for discussion, designed to help navigate the changes associated with innovative development and the digital transformation of rail transport. More than 90 presentations on the most relevant topics for the transport industry were delivered at the conference. Representatives from all Russian Railways (RZD) railway lines, as well as all railway universities and research organizations, took part in the conference in various formats. This form of communication makes it possible, on the one hand, to gain a deeper understanding of the problems facing the railway industry and, on the other, to assess possible scientific approaches to solving them. Over the two days of the conference, more than 3,000 people took part online and offline.

Transtelesoft presented a report titled "Development of Solutions for Ensuring Railway Traffic Safety Using the 'Bort' System as an Example." The new-generation "Bort" traffic safety system has been developed for use on all types of rolling stock, both for new locomotive orders and for replacing outdated safety devices that need to be upgraded. The "Bort" system meets all the requirements of the Customs Union Technical Regulations TR CU 001/2011 regarding traffic safety and is designed for installation on all types of rolling stock operated on railway sections equipped with automatic locomotive signaling (ALSN) trackside devices, as well as on sections equipped with semi-automatic block signaling; it can also be used on railway sections employing technologies that include onboard train-integrity monitoring and train separation by moving block sections. The "Bort" system can be adapted to any digital automated train-monitoring system for logistics management on local operating sections. The "Bort" locomotive safety system is an integrated system that implements traffic safety functions and can be upgraded with a driver information system, an automatic-driving system, the TSKBM driver wakefulness monitoring system, video recording, and cable-free diagnostics, while also reserving additional computing capacity for adding new functions as needed. For example, interfacing with the RPDA-T locomotive parameter recorders and automatic start-up systems increases the efficiency of those systems with additional capabilities that take real-time train conditions into account. At the same time, the ergonomics of the driver's workstation and the intuitiveness of the user interface have been significantly improved. All data from the safety systems and other subsystems is displayed on a single LCD screen.

The "Bort" onboard locomotive safety system is currently being successfully installed on TE33A and TEP33A mainline diesel locomotives and TEM11A shunting locomotives manufactured at the Lokomotiv Qurastyru Zauyty (LKZ) locomotive plant, as well as on special self-propelled rolling stock (Vorovsky TMZ). Projects are underway to install the system on KZ8A and KZ4AT series electric locomotives and on the TEM18DM shunting diesel locomotive at BMZ. The system can be adapted to any type of traction rolling stock. A proposal was put forward at the round table to open a procedure for obtaining approval of the "Bort" system for installation on traction rolling stock of Russian Railways (RZD) and other Russian companies, to permit its operation on public-use tracks.

The final resolutions of the conference, formed as a result of dialogue between representatives of the scientific community and transport industry workers, will serve as a basis for the speedy introduction of advanced developments into real-world operation.
